What is Farm City Celebration? We are glad you asked! It is a county-wide affair that celebrates agriculture and the contribution agriculture makes to the community. It began in Butte County as Farm City Week, when the Butte County chapter of California Women for Agriculture joined forces with the Ag Council of the Chico Chamber of Commerce and the Butte County Farm Bureau. Each organization chipped in $200, and the first Farm City Week was brought to Chico. That year, events included a Farmers Fair in front of a local drugstore & a dinner/dance to raise money to pay for bus tours of local agri-businesses.Farm City Week grew & evolved over the past 20 years and is now known as Farm City Celebration. This year marks the 26th year recognizing agriculture! Through the years new events have been added in order to better educate the public about agriculture. The mission of the Farm City Celebration Committee is to support, benefit and promote the agricultural industry through education, information, and community support during the annual Farm City Celebration, which takes place every November. The Farm City Celebration is a member of the Chico Chamber of Commerce Community Corporation. It is a collaborative effort of the Chico Chamber, California Women for Agriculture, Butte County Cattlemen, Butte County Cattlewomen, Butte County Ag Commissioner's Office, Butte County Farm Bureau, UC Cooperative Extension and the CSU, Chico, College of Agriculture, Farm Staff and CSU, Chico and Butte Community College Ag student organizations. Monies raised from our Farm City Celebration are given to worthy agricultural and educational projects in Butte County. Your participation helps make it a success! |
